first pool party of summer – the invitation package

It’s April and time to start thinking about summer’s upcoming pool parties!  Here in Palm Springs, California it is already hitting in the 90s.  I’m starting to get super stressed thinking about the long summer ahead where the temperatures in our desert soar up to 120 degrees.  It is inevitable, sigh.  The saving grace for us is owning a home with a pool.  For the next 6 months, you can find us in the pool, hosting lots and lots of pool parties!

The first pool party of summer is always a day filled with excitement.  Summer means school’s out and vacation in totally in, and what better way to celebrate than in the pool and by the grill?!  This year, I have a party planned around my littlest kid, who is 3, so lots of toddlers and babies will be in attendance.  I’ve begun shopping for the day: snacks, waters, lots of frozen treats and, of course, the invitation package contents!

An invitation package is a cool alternative to party favors that gets kids excited about the party days before it happens.  It’s awesome to send your guests home with a fun party favor, but what a cool idea to send them an invitation package instead.  This is a really great idea for parties that require gear like a pool party, i.e. proper attire, sun protection, toys, etc.

My #1 advice for sending out an invitation package is to find light items that are flat or squishable.  This will allow you to send the gifts in a bubble mailer rather than a box, saving you unnecessary postage expense.  You will notice all of my items are on the flatter end of the spectrum and are also light!

For our first pool party of the year, involving lots of toddlers, I put together these items to package for invitations:

  • Huggies® Little Swimmers®.  While my son (who is newly potty trained) goes bare bum most swims at home, Huggies® Little Swimmers® are a must for him when guests are around.  They are also preferred for guest babes and tots visiting, so I always keep a surplus supply around.
  • safe sunscreen.  Sunscreen is of top priority at a pool party, especially here in the desert where there is never even any clouds in the sky.  I like to find stick sunscreens for kids since sprays pose a problem with little eyes and the goopy squirted stuff is such a hassle!
  • pool toys.  Kids will not be excited about swim diapers and sunscreen so it is important to add in a fun pool toy to get the kids pumped for pool time.  There are a lot of options available, just keep them light and small for shipping purposes.

Swim diapers are an essential pool item for little babes and tots.  Gabriel is recently potty trained (yeay!) but this is our first pool season with him trained.  Even with a potty outside, I’m not sure how fast he can get out of the pool and to the potty.  He’s usually a last minute OMG I have to go right now type of pottier.  It should be an interesting experiment.

That being said, I won’t be risking a pool accident with guests around!  I’m sure Gabriel agrees that an accident would be a huge party host faux-pas.  Since the beginning, we’ve trusted Huggies® Little Swimmers® to keep our kiddos comfortable while in the pool.  The absolute last thing you want your tiny swimmer wearing in the pool is a saturated, soggy diaper.  If you’ve ever made that mistake, you know what I’m talking about.  When the kid gets out of the pool, the diaper just falls off it’s so heavy!

Available at Sam’s Club for your summer swimmer is an awesome Huggies® Little Swimmers® package of 23 swim diapers.  They currently feature Dory from Finding Dory – so cute!  Included in the box, you also get two freebies: 56 Huggies® wipes and Neutrogena® Beach Defense® Sunscreen SPF 70.  How awesome is that deal?

Speaking of awesome, snap some swim adventure photos and share with the hashtag #SwimAdventureContest or upload directly via for a chance to win one of 5 $1000 Sam’s Club Giftcards.  This contest is happening right now, ending 6/1/16.

Keep in the know with Huggies on Facebook and Instagram.

What an adorable gift package! That is a neat idea to send something before the party rather than party favors! #client
