DIY hanging planter {laundry room re-do}

When you move into a new home there are so many projects…countless, endless.  To avoid becoming overwhelmed and burned out, you really just have to take it one project at a time and break in between.  Life is busy enough with kids and work, and I really do want to enjoy the process of making this new home my own, so we have been taking it slow.  The laundry room has been bothering though – and it is very small and conquerable – so it made the checklist for this week!

Laundry rooms… they are not sexy rooms, they are purely functional and always a bit boring.  Ours had this horrid yellowish-beige paint that was begging to be covered.  Just. so. blah.  The cabinets are not my favorite either but with a fresh coat of paint and some new knobs, they might just work.`

We had a whole gallon of this blue-grey paint leftover from the guest room paint job so that seemed like an obvious choice.  I absolutely love soothing grey (you are awesome, Sherwin Williams) and it is a perfect color for a laundry room, modern yet welcoming.  It also went well with the purple laundry products I’m using from Suavitel ®.

Since we just have this little off-shoot laundry area with no windows or life, adding natural elements was really important to me.  Plants were an obvious choice, but I needed something easy to sustain – succulents!  You will find succulents all over my home bc they take very little attention.  I opted for purple ones when I could find them.

These two cuties certainly added life, but not enough – more!  There is limited counter space in my laundry room so my eyes went to the walls – shelves? Maybe later.  Hanging pots? Yes.

Working with the limited space, I decided to use smaller terracotta pots and somehow hang them together.  I searched my garage and found everything I needed for this DIY:

  • three terracotta pots
  • spray paint
  • rope
  • embroidery string
  • wall hook

  • step one: spray paint your three terracotta pots inside and out.  Leave to dry (I left mine overnight)

  • step two: cut two 8 foot rope pieces, fold in half.  Fasten a 1.5 inch loop with wrapped embroidery string.  I wrapped about 1.5 inches with white, but you could do multiple colors.  Use hot glue if needed.  About 13 inches down, tie off and wrap again.  Repeat.

  • Find a stud and hang a sturdy hook.  I spray painted my hook gold because, well, I love gold.  Hang your rope first, then insert plants.  Where the rope meets the pot’s underside, hot glue.

That’s it!!

I am a high anxiety person, so lavender is a scent I use in all aspects of my life.  It is very calming and pleasant.  I purchased both the Suavitel® Fragrance Pearls™ in lavender and field flowers, but am starting out with the lavender.  They are in-wash scent boosters that have 5x longer lasting fragrance.  You put them in before the clothing goes in and offer tons of pleasant fragrance that lasts past the laundry room!!

Clearly, I had to also purchase the Suavitel® Liquid Fabric Conditioner in Soothing Lavender as well.  It looks mighty amazing in my glass pourer (made as oil and vinegar dispensers) next to my detergent, right?  This product goes in during the final rinse cycle and softens, fragrances and reduces static cling.

To finish off the remodel, I found a jar for my dryer balls.  I really love dryer balls as they cut down on dryer time, better for the Earth, better for your wallet.

We thought about doing something with the cabinets, a face-lift of sorts, but once the beige paint was gone, they didn’t look so bad.  To jazz them up, because they deserve it, I found some new pretty swallow knobs, facing north and south, relatively.

My laundry room has never looked so good and my laundry has never smelled so great!  Even my 8 year old, who pays attention to nothing, has been commenting on how amazing her clothing smells.  Winner, Suavitel®, winner.  Purchase Suavitel® Fragrance Pearls™ and Suavitel® Liquid Fabric Conditioner at Walmart in the laundry cleaner aisle.  There will even be Suavitel® Fragrance Pearls™ samples on select Suavitel liquid fabric conditioners in store, lucky you if you find that great deal!

Find Suavitel® products at Walmart in the fabric softener section in the laundry aisle.

The next time I learn a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I do know it was my option to learn, but I really thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you can repair if you happen to werent too busy looking for attention.
