Sometimes I think I put more effort into finding my daughter the best pajamas than her street clothes. I just believe that when you are at home, your safe haven, you should be as comfortable as possible. And while I am always looking for the best designs and patterns (modern yet classic child) material is absolutely #1. We have all become more aware of the importance of dressing in clothing made from natural fibers–not synthetic. We have all been learning that it is not just about what you put in your body, but also what you put on your body. Luckily, the safest, most natural materials happen to be the softest as well. I can’t think of a more important garment to be soft other than pajamas. Well, underwear, but let’s ignore that for now. Pajamas–the ultimate homey, comfort outfit. A good pair of pajamas is like a bowl of warm, creamy macaroni and cheese on a blustery winter’s night (have I gone too far?).
Hatley has been on my pajama radar for some time now. They make pajamas (among other products) for the entire family. When an opportunity arose to review an item, of course I went to my daughter. I let her peruse the pajamas and she settled on a super cute set aptly named, Pink Bears on Pink Kids’ Thermal Pajama Set. These pajamas are found in the fleece and thermal section– perfect for the cool weather we are experiencing out here in the desert nights. The set she received is 100% cotton waffle, creating a cozy thermal feel. The top and bottom are so soft to the touch, quite possibly the softest I have found to date! These toasty jams feature an adorable yet modern print of bear silhouettes–simple, classic winter. There is a three snap button placket on the top and the overall fit is snug but never tight. The material breathes well and keeps my daughter cool in the middle of the night when she starts to really produce heat. I noticed in the morning that she wasn’t super sweaty in the hair. I know it is because she was wearing natural materials that allow air circulation. This is key for any children who turn into little radiators in the night. The overall construction is exactly what I’m looking for–fitted cuffs at ankles and wrists, elastic waist in bottoms, and a head opening that won’t give my daughter any issues when taking the top off. This type of pajama construction gives you (the parent) the option of buying a size up, which is what I did. While a size 5 would fit my daughter perfect, a size 6 will allow for more room to grow yet will stay in place due to the aforementioned construction. You can maximize your money with this style of pajama. You can only do this with top quality products like the ones Hatley offers because they will stand up to wear and washings. You can wash and wash and wash these pajamas with no shrinking or fading.
Anyone who loves a family run business should read the full story on how Hatley came to be, and what it is now. It is such a beautiful story, and I am a little hormonal tonight, and that combination almost lead to a leaky eye situation. It begins: ”It started over twenty years ago with a sense of humor, a talented painter, her restless husband and the Little Blue House gift store in the lakeside village of North Hatley, Canada.” Hatley is, and has always been, a family run business and that is something we here at ITKM always get behind. Check out their creative lines of women’s, men’s, and children’s apparel, as well as their gift and kitchen section (which contains the aprons that started it all).
