Finding toys that provoke thought and inspire little minds are real gems in a sea of… junk. I am reviewing two top finds, both given Brilliance Awards by the store and sent for review.
The Melissa and Doug Deluxe Magic Set is one of the coolest, most unique toy sets I have seen. The tricks are classic illusions, an illustrated instruction to guide, and is for kids around the age of 8 and up. My 6, almost 7 year old has most of them down, though and is regularly putting on magic shows for anyone who will sit still for 5 minutes.
The tricks are standard magic tricks, the same ones professional magicians perform on larger scales, disappearing objects, multiplying coins, magic boxes, prediction tricks, a secret change bag and more. Your kids will love to learn the magician’s secrets!
What I find the most magical about the set though, is the illustrations on the different boxes. They are so beautiful, and they remind me of circuses from long ago. Sturdy wooden construction with whimsical designs…
The Melissa and Doug Deluxe Magic Set features 10 magic tricks, all contained in a beautiful wooden box. Toys that give your kids opportunities to master a skill builds their confidence. My daughter smiles from ear to ear while she so masterfully shows off her magic tricks, and that is a job well done, parents!
For my little guy, I chose the much loved, classic Skwish from Manhattan Toy. He loves to manipulate the beads and squish the Skwish over and over. He also uses it as a teething toy and I find him chomping around on it quite a bit.
The Skwish is definitely a wonderful sensory experience for little ones learning their motor skills — easy to grab, hold and manipulate. With some beads moving, it is also a rattle. I often see my looking at the Skwish with the most inquisitive, serious face — as if he is trying to figure out a complex puzzle or equation. I’m hoping as time goes on, he will be interested in the 3D aspect of it.
