The Princess & The Popstar {Barbie Party} Giveaway

Chances are, if you have a small girl in your house, Barbie movies are a big love.  Well, Barbie is back with a brand new movie, The Princess & The Popstar, and I’m loving the story.  After all, what little girl hasn’t dreamed of being a popstar or a princess? Come on, admit it.   Barbie stars as Princess Tori, a beautiful modern princess who dreams of living a life with more freedom, like she envisions her favorite popstar, Keira, has.  Little does Princess Tori know, Keira dreams of a life more like that of a princess, with none of the responsibilities that come with being a popstar.   Through the aid of all that Barbie magic, the two transform into the other and experience life on the other side of the pasture (but is it greener?).  The movie has a positive message of appreciating and loving the life you have.  While it may be fun to pretend to be other things or people, we’ll always be happiest as ourselves.

To thoroughly welcome the new movie to our home, we hosted a party.  With the main attraction being a viewing of Barbie: The Princess & The Popstar, and awesome toys from Mattel, it was an easy party to coordinate.  The girls watched the movie (twice) while acting out the scenes in The Princess & The Popstar Castle and munching on pink party popcorn (see recipe below).  The main attraction seemed to be the castle, which opens up to have a good deal of rooms (three floors) and furniture to be the home for the mini Keira and Tori dolls.  The staircases light up and sing to make very grand entrances for the Barbies as they perform on the stage.  All of the girls had their Barbie Fairies in the action as well, soaring over the castle, dispersing fairy dust onto the castle-dwellers.

barbie party

Full-size Keira and Tori Doll are awesome (see above).  These two dolls truly transform just like in the film, with their outfits and even hair.  A tug of the string detail on the skirt pulls the princess dress back, revealing the popstar short skirt (vice versa for Keira).  Twist the head and the hair turns from blonde to pink (Tori) or brunette to purple (Keira).  Then, touch the necklace and two songs from the movie play. These were clearly a hit with the party-goers — keep reading for your chance to win both dolls!

During the second viewing of Barbie: The Princess & The Popstar, I pulled out coloring sheets and stickers for the girls.  As they colored away, I remembered a Barbie microphone my daughter has from a TV anchor set.  I also remembered I had the lyrics to Here I Am, which is a song in the movie performed by Keira.  Clearly, it was time for the girls to let their inner popstars loose, and so they did.

The Barbie Party came to an end and I was left in a sea of pink: feathery boas, paper decorations, tutu tulle and ribbon, and yes, left over Pink Party Popcorn.  There was only leftovers because the girls (and moms) demanded I make a second batch.  Because of its success, I’m sharing the recipe:

Pink Party Popcorn

1/3 cup popcorn kernels, popped

4-6 oz white candy melts, melted

pink gel food coloring

sprinkles

Pop kernels in 2-3 T of oil in a tall stock pot.  Spread over a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Mix a bit of pink food coloring into the melted candy melts.

Pour melted candy over popcorn and lightly mix, sprinkle with sprinkles.

Enjoy.  Inspired by She Wears Many Hats

    To Princess Tori,
“Keira: To be a popstar is to know which spoon to use. To be a popstar is a thousand pairs of shoes. Have your breakfast served in bed. Wear some diamonds on your head. Get a foot massage. And mani pedi too. To be a popstar is to live a dream come true. Curtsey when princes come to call. Wear a new gown to every ball. All through the day, there’s just one way you must behave. Pose with a feather in your hat. Stretch on a golden yoga mat. Bend from above. And always wear your gloves. And wave. Shoulders back. And tummy in and. Pinky out and. Lift the chin and. Slowly turn your head from side to side. Breathing gently. Stepping lightly. Smile brightly. Nod politely. Do everything you do with pride. Glide. To be a popstar is to wear your family crest. To be a popstar is to always do your best. You: To be a princess is to know which mic to use. To be a princess is to not fall off your shoes. To rehearse until it’s right. Give a great show every night. And have room service with anything you choose. To be a princess is to love your great reviews. Take in the latest fashion show. Fly for a lunch to Mexico. No time for friends. Except your dog. And your guitar. Tweet everyone your latest news. Sit for a thousand interviews. Love every fan. No matter how bizarre they are. Here’s a camera. There’s a camera. And a camera. And a camera. And another autograph to sign. (Keira: Love Tori.) You: Change your clothes and. Strike a pose and. Work the crowd and. Take a bow and. Don’t forget to post it all online. Shine. To be a princess is to never act your age. To be a princess is to make the world your stage. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Shoulders back and. Keira: Strike a pose and. You: Pinky out and. Keira: Change your clothes and. Slowly turn your head from side to side. We see now. Here’s a camera. You: Stepping lightly. Keira: There’s a camera. You: Nod politely. Do everything we do with pride. Glide. Both: To be a popstar is to always do your best. To be a princess is to leave them all impressed.” All the girls cheered. Keira said “Ready?” You said “Ready.” So, don’t you worry, Tori. I will promise you. You will too. We both will. We always promise each other. Tori, we love each other so much. We do.

    To Princess Tori,
We are best friends today, tomorrow, and always. I’ve just got a few minutes left until it’s time for my blood test at the hospital. As we know that June is coming in two months time, I’ll turn from thirteen to fourteen. That’s right. On 27th June, which is this year, I will turn from thirteen to fourteen. When I’m fourteen, the Barbie Spy Squad Barbie Secret Agent Doll will be given to me. If I’m brave, kind and good at my blood test, I’ll be out for my evening meal at The Griffin, Coventry Road, Bedworth. So, my friends of Saturn Class are reading. Oops. Sorry I’ve slothered onto the “X” button. That was my fault. Oops. Oops. Oops. We had fun together. Keira remembered that popstars just wanna have fun. Oops. Sorry I’ve dropped the green pen. Oops, once again. Why can’t we be two buttons on a coat? That’s because of something loose. Oops. So, wait for just a minute, buttons can’t fly. That doesn’t make any sense. We will promise each other.

    To Princess Tori,
We and Barbie are best friends. The three of us are best friends today, tomorrow, and always. So, you sang the music video of the final song, which is my favourite “When I was young, I played for fun. Made up the words. Nobody heard. But now I see. All eyes on me. And suddenly. I’m in a dream. I’ve got a feeling now. Everything’s right somehow. Here I am. Being who I want. Giving what I got. Never a doubt now. Here I go. Burning like a spark. Light up the dark again. I’m stepping up. Right to the top. That’s how I’m wired. I take it higher. I’m in control. I broke the mould. The girl you see. Is up to me. I’m lifting off the ground. Finding the perfect sound. Here I am. Being who I want. Giving what I got. Never a doubt now. Here I go. Burning like a spark. Light up the dark again. Again. Again. Again and again and again. Hey, Meribella. I am royal to be here performing for your kingdom’s 500th anniversary. There’s a star that’s right inside you. So, come on and let it out. Find out what you’re about and just shout. Here I Am. Being who I want. Giving what I got. Never a doubt now. Here I go. Burning like a spark. Light up the dark again. (Royal dancers: Here I am. Being who I want.) You: Yeah. Yeah. (Royal dancers: Giving what I got.) You: Oh. Oh. (Royal dancers: Never a doubt now. Here I go.) You: Oh. Oh. (Royal dancers: Burning like a spark. Light up the dark again.) You: Here I am. Being who I want. Giving what I got. Never a doubt now. Here I go. Burning like a spark. Light up the dark again. Again. Again. Again and again. Again and again and again and again. (Again.) Again. (Whoa.) Again and again and again and again. Here we go.” All the girls cheered. Barbie and us will promise each other. We always promise each other. Remember, we and Barbie will promise.

    To Princess Tori,
We and Barbie are best friends. Of course the three of us are. The three of us are best friends today, tomorrow, and always. Secret Agent Barbie can do cool cartwheels and fantastic flips. Secret Agent Renee can do some rappeling action. And Secret Agent Teresa, my sister’s best friend, along with Keira, can also do action like spin kicks. Don’t worry, Tori. We and Barbie will promise each other. We will.

    To Princess Tori,
We and Barbie are best friends. While you and Keira are in the secret garden disguised as each other, Keira’s aunt, Amelia, said “Keira? (Tori finding out she is Keira.) Are you mad bringing a royal princess in here? You know the rules. No one of the pop family is allowed in this garden. And you reveal it to a perfect stranger. Whoa.” Keira said, disguised as you “Now hold on. You can’t talk that way to Tori’s friend, the popstar. And if the popstar could speak, which she can’t, because she’s… ah, uh, speechless, she would say that you’re being a… a pop party pooper. (Amelia gasped.) I rest my case.” Keira took your hand and rushed back to her bedroom. Amelia said “Oh. Sometimes I don’t know who that girl is.” Later, Keira said “That was close. I thought she’d ground us both.” You said “That might be the scariest woman I’ve ever met.” Keira said “And today was a great day.” Tori said “Look, this was awesome, but, I’ve got a tour to obsess over… so, let’s change back before your aunt gets anymore… Roar.” So, Barbie and us will promise. We always will. Keira and you laughed and changed back. That was quick. Riff said “Uh. Thank goodness that sillyness is over.” Vanessa Fluffy-Pie said “Sillyness? Sillyness? What sillyness? Do you like bacon?” Keira said “Why does it have to end?” You said “Well, for one thing, I’ve got a concert to do tonight. And how about we do more than-” Keira interrupted you “How about tomorrow? We could change places in the morning and spend the whole day being each other.” Riff said “Uh. This is a bad idea on so many levels.” Suddenly, Vanessa said “Wait. How do you might know? Look. This can’t be good.” You said “Look. I don’t think-” Keira interrupted again “Tori, wouldn’t it be amazing just for one day to take a break from being you?” You asked “Keira?” Keira said “It’d be magical. I get to be a princess for a whole day. And you get to be a popstar…” You said “Let’s do it.” So, we and Barbie will always promise. Popstars just want to have fun.

    To Princess Tori,
We and Barbie are best friends. I said “Of course. Tori really wished she can have the seemingly relaxed and carefree life of Popstar Keira. My sister and I can twist each one’s hair. Twist it from purple to brunette (Keira) or blonde to pink (Tori.) That’s right. Keira’s hair twists from a purple popstar hair into a brunette princess hair. Tori’s hair also twists, but it goes from a blonde princess hair into a pink popstar hair. Both Keira and Tori sing their second song together. The second song is called “Here I Am.” But their first song is different. Keira’s first song she sings is called “Popstars Just Want To Have Fun.” This song is a remake of Princess Tori’s 1980 song “Princesses Just Want To Have Fun.” Tori’s first song is different to Keira. Tori’s first song is called “Perfect Day.” During “Perfect Day,” Keira, disguised as Tori, lost control of rocking as a princess while Tori, disguised as Keira, sniffed into the dahlias and sneezed into them. Into each one goes Tori’s sneeze. That’s why. Tori is allergic to dahlias. While Tori sings “Look How High We Can Fly” to Keira’s two sisters, Keira’s bed turns into a balloon. Tori wished she could take duties as a popstar. Okay. Tori is a world-famous princess who wishes she had the freedom to take duties and write the speech as a popstar. Tori also wished for a posh popstar life. Keira is a popstar who wishes she had the freedom to rock like a princess. That’s right. Keira’s first song is similar to Tori’s 1980 song. “Popstars Just Wanna Have Fun” is the first song Keira’s doll sings. The first song that Keira sings is similar to Tori’s 1980 song “Princesses Just Wanna Have Fun.” That’s right. “Princesses Just Wanna Have Fun” is released for Tori to sing in 1980. The song is given a treatment so it became a new song called “Popstars Just Wanna Have Fun.” Keira sang the new song “I wake up in the morning light. The dutchess says when you gonna live your life right. I know she thinks that I’m the fortunate one. But popstars just wanna have fun. Oh. Oh. Oh. Popstars just wanna have. That’s all we really want. Is some fun. When the rocking day is done, popstars just wanna have fun. Oh. Oh. Oh. Popstars just wanna have fun. (Chorus: Popstars just want. We wanna have fun. We want. We wanna have.) Keira: We just wanna. We just wanna. We just wanna. We just wanna. We just wanna. (Chorus: Popstars just wanna sing. They just wanna.) Keira: We just wanna. (Chorus: Wanna have fun.) Keira: We just wanna. We just wanna. (Chorus: Yeah. We wanna have fun.) All: We just wanna. Keira: Popstars just wanna have fun. Oh. Oh. Oh. Popstars just wanna have fun.” All the girls cheered. These popstars just always wanna have fun. Keira sings “Popstars Just Wanna Have Fun,” the remake to Tori’s song “Princesses Just Wanna Have Fun” about her dream to be a princess. While in 1980, Tori sings “Princesses Wanna Have Fun” about her dream to be a popstar. We and Barbie will promise. Bye.

    To Princess Tori,
We, Merliah, and Barbie are best friends. “Popstars Just Wanna Have Fun” is a song that Keira sings. Her doll sings that song first. It’s a remake of your classic song “Princesses Just Wanna Have Fun.” So, we, Merliah, and Barbie will promise each other. We always will.
