Digital Video, Movement and Sound Baby Monitor {Angelcare} + giveaway

When my second child was born, I was terrified, more terrified than with my first.  With my daughter I had ignorance to help me sleep through the night.  Six years later when my son was born, I stayed up all night sick with terror thinking about SIDS.  The first few months I didn’t sleep, even when he actually did.  Had I had the Angelcare Digital Video, Movement and Sound Monitor, I could have relaxed a bit and achieved some quality deep sleep.

angelcare video monitor review in_the_know_mom

This video monitor has all of the capabilities a parent could want: uninterrupted streaming color video, infrared for night vision, back-up battery power and 2-way talk so you can sing a lullaby or speak soothing words to your baby from the other room.  There are also multiple alarms to make sure everything is perfect in the nursery, giving parents everywhere unprecedented peace of mind.

The parent unit features a temperature reader/display which I really appreciate.  Note that we keep our house at 78 degrees, which may seem warm to non-desert-dwellers, but compared to the 110 heat outside, it’s very comfortable.  Luckily, fall is setting in and we are seeing temperatures into the mid 60’s at times – sweatshirt weather!  For added comfort, we also keep a tower fan blowing through the kids’ beds.   For those in other climates, this will come in handy as the temperature reaches freezing temperatures outside.  Angelcare recommends 68-72 degrees so we keep the temperature alarm off.

Other notable features: touch screen on portable parent unit, audio “tic” feature for paranoid moms like me to provide assurance when baby is super quiet, parent unit locator for when you lose track of it, and a timer that tracks baby’s sleep times… oh and it uses 2.4 GHz digital transmission to reduce interference and provide maximum privacy.

The video is good during the day and night, not the best in the in-between low light, and has zoom in/zoom out ability (and also rotates up/down and side to side).  Love that.  The audio I think is the best I have heard.  It tunes out my white noise machine pretty well, making it easy for me to hear my baby’s cries.  The volume levels are great, the lowest being perfect when I don’t want my husband to wake with me (he lives and works on a very different schedule than me).

angelcare video movement monitor review in_the_know_mom

When my son was a newborn in his crib, I watched the video monitor like a hawk.  I even would go put my finger below his nose to make sure he was still breathing… okay I STILL do that, but way less now that he is 8 months.

The Angelcare Digital Video, Movement and Sound Monitor has a trick up its sleeve that other video monitors do not.  See, it monitors movement.  It features an under-the-mattress baby movement sensor pad that offers peace of mind like none other. The sensor pad feels every tiny movement your baby makes, and if they do not move within 20 seconds, an alarm sounds.

It is easy to use, just place it under the mattress where your baby sleeps.  I wish I had this system when my son was a newborn, but I still find peace using it now — you can never be too safe.  The sensor pad can be used for babies under 24 months and then after that, just disconnect it and keep using the rest of the monitor system.

As a fun bonus, the nursery unit is also a nightlight… a pretty cool one at that.  I’ve found one can never have enough nightlights.  Being right next to the crib, it is a nice beacon in the night when you go in for a feeding or diaper change.

angelcare sound movement video monitor review in_the_know_mom

Here is where I list negatives about the monitor.  I do have one and that is trying to figure out how to face the camera at my sleeping son.  I’m used the kind of monitor that mounts to the wall and motors around.  I was befuddled with where to put the nursery unit when I saw it had no mounting capabilities, but ended up placing a new shelf for the nursery unit.  I had to also use a bit of 3M sticky tape.  I’ve read online that many use a flexible tripod… maybe the next version from Angelcare with come with its own tripod — brilliant idea!

My other negative I would list is the battery life isn’t awesome (a few hours)… but you can snooze the video part which I believe reduces the battery draining, and the range is about 200 ft, which doesn’t extend to parts of my yard where I like to relax.  But, all in all, this is one monitor system that can keep new and veteran parents both in the peace.

Purchase the Angelcare Video Sound and Movement Baby Monitor System at Amazon (MSRP $289.99) – a really reasonable price for the amount of peace of mind it gives.  Keep in the know by liking Angelcare on Facebook.

I would love to win this monitor so when I have my baby in June, I will be able to keep an eye/ear on my sleeping baby while I’m in other rooms interacting with my 2 and 5 year olds. It would help give me that peace of mind, as with my other two I didn’t have the funds for a monitor and there was always that added stress of having to check in on the babies every so many minutes and not being able to step outside even to make a phone call. This would be absolutely amazing to have this time around.
