Little Grips: for little hands

Friday, July 16th, 2010

The ongoing battle of the utensils.  We’ve all been there.  With my daughter, I have gone through utensil after utensil, seeking the most efficient pair.  I’ve been relatively happy with forks I have found in the past, but spoons can be difficult.  I must admit it is 100% the child’s fault.  They just can’t seem to understand the refined “scooping and turning” method.  Although my 3 year old can use adult-sized silverware, she still prefers the ones that fit her small mouth a little better.

Recently, I was introduced to Little Grips, which are specially made for toddlers.  The unique handle makes this pair SUPER easy and safe to use.  The fork can hold more than your typical “baby fork” and the spoon doesn’t require any refined motor skills to use.  My only complaint is that the spoon is shallow.  Other than that, the set is perfect for your kid’s little hands and little mouth.  Another great point is that the handle is completely choke-free, unlike a long sleek utensil.  The handle is held comfortably in the palm, giving your toddler complete control.  I found the bumpy surface of the grip to be really helpful, as opposed to slippery-smooth handles of the competitors.  Dishwasher Safe and only $10.95 for the set!  Order your Little Grips today!

Constructive Eating: feeding kids creatively

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Mealtime in our house, like in many others, can be a tug of war. “Kade, sit down.” “Kade, please take bites.” “Kade, just taste your asparagus. Try it, you’ll like it!” Sometimes, I feel like eating is more of a chore than it is a time for family togetherness, conversation and laughter. At this point, I feel like I need to make mealtime light hearted and yes, even FUN again like it was when he was a baby. Enter Constructive Eating.

Constructive Eating currently offers three unique products: the fork lift fork, front loader spoon, and bulldozer pusher. They use true to life colors and shaping for the construction “machines”. All are rugged, light weight, and dishwasher safe. They are great when going out to eat, trying to extend productive eating time at the table, encouraging those not-so-favorite foods, or just for fun! Only FDA approved materials are used to manufacture these products. They do not use any paints and their products contain NO Lead, NO Bisplenol A (BPA), NO PVC, and NO Phthalates.

Tiny Taste Tester:

Kade immediately took to this cutlery. I mean, really what boy wouldn’t? The bulldozer pusher was his favorite, as it really helped him get the food onto his fork without getting his fingers dirty or handling a knife. Because, really Mom’s of toddler boys, do we need to give them an excuse to use play with a sharp object? Even though I’m sure they would be ecstatic, I don’t think so:) Dinner time has been fun and playful again! He has even scooped the veggies up onto his spoon, but didn’t eat them. But hey, at least he is TOUCHING them at some point! We love these little guys and with utensils in yellow AND pink, who says it’s not ok to play with your food?

Excuse the food, is it even possible to photograph casserole attractively? I think not:)

Tiny Tongs

tinytongs 300 225x300 Tiny TongsWhen your child begins to eat finger foods, they also have this very strong desire to do things by themselves. Meal times can be a very frustrating process for parents as you stand back and fight the urge to help them feed themselves. Food typically ends up everywhere. Mom and entrepreneur, Cary Bice, dealt with these same frustrations. This is why Cary and her husband, Justin, created Tiny Tongs.

Tiny Tongs are recommended for children one to five years old.  They come in pink, blue, yellow and orange. Tiny Tongs are non toxic (lead free, BPA free, Phthalate free) and are dishwasher safe. I was able to try out Tiny Tongs with my daughter and she loved them! It was effortless to pick up peaches, noodles or oranges with her Tiny Tongs.

Your little ones will see how easy it is to feed themselves with the non-slip ergonomical grip. The posable grip to be customized for every child and will help them gain confidence in the ability to feed themselves.
