Buttercupbloom: tooth fairy pillows

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I love finding one-of-a-kind items on etsy. Even though my daughter is only two and a half, I’ve already been on the hunt for quite some time to find the perfect tooth fairy pillow. I have to say that I’ve completely fallen in love with Buttercupbloom, who uses different fabric textures and colors to create the most adorable Hoot Owls. Each owl has a name and a cute little story to share with your little one. Two Hoot Owls looking for a warm home and loving child to wrap their arms around them are detailed below. Be sure to check out all the other Hoot Owls here.

Daisy- Daisy, the Summer Flower Hoot Owl loves everyone. She’s just a good egg that way. Summer is her most favorite time of year because her beloved wild flowers are in full bloom. And, she doesn’t just love daisies – she is crazy for Forget Me Nots, French Lavender, Chocolate Cosmos, Johnny Jump Ups and Honeysuckle! MMMmmmm!

Carleton – He happens to live in a mysterious, twisty tree smack dab in the middle of a very famous Ivy League college. Autumn is his very favorite time of year as he loves the changing of the campus trees as well as well as the way the landscape of the student body transforms. There is absolutely nothing like that crisp, expectant feeling in the air brought about by new students, new friendships and new relationships with old books.

Lifefactory: safe glass bottles and teethers

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Lifefactory provides you with a safe and simple solution to those plastic baby bottles.  No matter what you do to sanitize and clean, the plastic bottles just look dingy.  With all the chemical leeching plastic scares, and not to mention the plastic landfills, glass bottles have become the obvious answer.  But your baby needs to be protected from glass, and the glass bottles need to be protected from your baby (hello bottle spikes!)  Try out Lifefactory’s glass bottles with silicone sleeves.  They come in FANTASTIC colors, are BPA and Phthalate free, and environmentally friendly.  Not to mention easy to clean and sanitize.  Bottles are sold in 4 and 9 oz sizes. Erin: I was one of those parents that had a newborn baby when the whole BPA scare hit CNN and had all the mom’s buzzing. I already had BPA free bottles purchased online before the broadcast was over. I have to tell you that I was STILL nervous with my BPA free plastic bottles and truly wanted to switch to a glass bottle, but petrified to do it! My daughter has a really good arm on her and I was positive they would all be in a million pieces after their first use. My ears perked up the second I saw Lifefactory’s products hit the market. Not only are they completely safe, they’re gorgeous! I have to tell you that I was intrigued to see if the silicone sleeve truly protected the glass bottle and well, I decided to give it a drop onto my travertine floor. What’s the point of reading our reviews if we don’t put the items through a full line of testing! So, I gave it a drop, and holy moly, the bottle is perfect!! That’s truly impressive that it can stand the test of time (or a drop from a high distance onto a hard surface). They have nipples available in four flows: Stage 1 (0-3 months), Stage 2 (3-6 months), Stage 3 (6+ months), Y cut (fastest flow).

Daddy’s Drink Corner: Chelsea Sidecar

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Hi there.  I’m Neil.  I’ll be your bartender this evening.  What’s it gonna be?

4056352725 5d6f641348 Daddys Drink Corner: Chelsea SidecarThis week, let’s try a Chelsea Sidecar.  This is a classic version of a popular drink.  The sidecar takes many forms and flavors.  This one is my favorite.  The drink gets its name from the famous area of Manhattan. Chelsea was a familiar hangout to some of the greatest literary minds of our time.  That’s right.  Guys like Hemingway.  Real American heroes.  This drink happened to be a favorite of his, and his colleagues.  The Chelsea Hotel was known to entertain these fellows on a regular basis, giving the drink a lesser known moniker of the same name.

This drink is very simple, and just wonderful.  Don’t take my word ( or Ernest’s ) for it.  Try it yourself.

*2 measures gin ( don’t make me tell you about Bombay Sapphire again, I mean really. )

*1 measure triple sec

*1 measure fresh squeezed lemon juice

Shake all the ingredients over ice in your favorite cocktail shaker.  Garnish with a lemon twist.  Grab a copy of “The Sun Also Rises” and enjoy this cocktail on the patio.  It’s not the Chelsea Hotel, but it’s the next best thing.  See you next week.

Kiwi Industries: winter essential must-haves

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

kiwi3 150x150 Kiwi Industries: winter essential must havesKiwi Industries has been working hard for the last six years to create the most adorable clothing line for kids with natural, organic and recycled fibers. They are extremely passionate about social and environmental awareness. Their organic cotton collection is skal-certified and all sweaters are knit in a womens cooperative in South America. They produce all of their marketing on recycled paper. Go green, go kiwi.

Their hats are truly adorable and will keep your child warm and toasty while giving them originality amongst their friends. They have hats small enough for infants and large enough for children up to 6 years. I’d suggest sizing up slightly if you don’t want it too snug. The hats definitely stretch out, but my 2.5 year old daughter would probably fit nicely with room to grow in the large size.

Kicokids

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Kicokids is an adorable clothing line that harmoniously combines comfort, style and necessity. They originally started out creating fashion knits for little ones but has expanded to woven styles as well to bring you more varieties. They truly pave the way in premium quality clothing for children.

My daughter is absolutely IN LOVE with her Kicokids cotton jersey “bewitched” dress. It’s so warm and comfy, she literally wears it constantly. She has a little room to grow, which I love because I can’t wait to pair this with fun tights during the colder months here!

Sarah: With fall weather (60′s) finally here, it’s time to beef up my daughter’s fall wardrobe.  When this Kicokids sweater arrived, I was THRILLED with the quality.  This incredible knit is perfect for layering up in this unpredictable seasonal weather.  My daughter made some attempts at climbing “Steve Tree”.

Violight: H1N1′s arch-nemesis (giveaway)

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

yhst 20427195513060 2074 7161309 Violight: H1N1s arch nemesis (giveaway)A single toothbrush can harbor millions of microorganisms, which can translate into harmful bacteria (Influenza virus, herpes simplex I, streptococci, staphylococci, staphlococci, yeasts, bacteria that can cause gum disease, cavities and even diarrheal illness). Violight eliminates these microorganisms and several others within minutes and is one of the hottest items on the market right now! Violight has a line of toothbrush sanitizers that are clinically proven to eliminate 99.9% of bacteria on your toothbrush with germicidal UV light. This even includes the H1N1 Swine Flu Virus!!!

It’s so important to ensure our little ones brush their teeth every day. But, what do you clean their toothbrushes with? I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen my daughter go from gnawing on her toothbrush, to scrubbing the bathroom counter with it within a matter of seconds. Sometimes she’ll drop it on the floor or I find it randomly laying somewhere in the house. The nasty list goes on and on. The germicidal UV light that VIOlight uses destroys the DNA of microorganisms. Not only will it kill all the bacteria they pick up from playing around with their toothbrushes, but it will also entice them to want to brush their teeth because of the cool blue light that illuminates from the toothbrush sanitizer once you press the button to start cleaning.

We have the Original Violight Toothbrush Sanitizer that can sanitize up to four toothbrushes at a time. All you do is brush your teeth with your toothbrush, rinse it off with water, drop it into the sanitizer and press yhst 20427195513060 2074 7961640 Violight: H1N1s arch nemesis (giveaway)the button on the front. BAM, the light comes on for a few minutes and your toothbrushes are germ free!

It’s our job to ensure our families are safe and healthy. Go here and pick out the Violight that is the best fit for your household. This is a definite ITKM Must Have and an item that should be found in every home.

Violight has an exciting opportunity for our ITKM readers. We have a VIOlight Zapi to GIVE AWAY! To enter: leave a comment below telling us which Violight which color you’d like. Chores are such a huge part of helping your child learn responsibility and self-reliance. I found this adorable free, printable chore list at ModEco Kids and had to share it with you all. I love the positive quote at the top because children love to know they are helping and that we need their help. It’s positive and shows families work together as teams. Lunch Punch (giveaway)

Monday, October 26th, 2009

A few months ago, one of our In The Know Moms, Jennifer, had responded to one of our S.O.S. postings in our forum ideas for getting our picky eaters to eat. She mentioned that when she cut her daughter’s sandwich into shapes, her daughter ate it all up! I think several of us ran to the kitchen after reading that to try her tip out. The only item I had to use was some flower petal fondant cutouts, but beggars can’t be choosers. My daughter definitely loved the concept and ate more than she usually did, but WOW that was a pain to cut out every little item! That’s when I found Lunch Punch. Lunch Punch is a food cutter specifically designed to use as much of the bread as possible while cutting off the crust of the bread.

lunch Lunch Punch (giveaway)

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was to find this company, but also to be able to put them to use! They currently have two sets of Lunch Punches to choose from. The Critter Cutters have a Butterfly, Two Fish, a Dog in a dog house and an Elephant with it’s baby to choose from. The second set is an assortment of four different puzzle pieces combinations. In 2010 they have two new sets joining the Lunch Punch family, a set of Continental Shapes and a Vehicle set!

My daughter loves to be a part of the process. She helps to pick out which lunch punch she would like to use; this is usually a very difficult predicament for her as she ponders deeply on which to choose. She hops onto the counter to watch me make her sandwich, then she helps me press down on the bread to make her Lunch Punch! All kidding aside, when I cut a sandwich out with these cutters, it’s the ONLY time she will ever eat her entire sandwich. I’m not quite sure why she would only eat a few bites when I would cut the bread into triangles. It’s exciting for her to be a part of the process and it also makes eating fun!

Sarah: My daughter also loved being part of the process.  She doesn’t even LIKE peanut butter and jelly but she ate this one! She started out nice, but then really put her back (and everything else) into it.  She was so proud afterward and ate the whole thing.  Did I mention she doesn’t even LIKE peanut butter and jelly sandwiches???

New Jammies: fruits/veggies style (giveaway)

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Two things that my daughter outgrows the quickest: shoes and jammies.  Needless to say, I’m always searching for pajamas for my daughter.  I look for organic, quality jams that BREATHE.  I’ve tried jams on her made of synthetic materials and she ends up a sweaty mess.  Organic cotton, I have found breathes the best, aiding in a peaceful sleep.  And a peaceful sleep leads to a peaceful baby.  Say no more!

New Jammies has a line of adorable fruits and veggies pajamas that will hopefully encourage the consumptions of fresh foods. For the first time ever, because of childhood obesity, children may have shorter life expectancies than their parents!  This is an epidemic and we should do everything we can to get kids interested in fruits and vegetables.  To shop go here.

*New Jammies has extended a coupon code to ITKMs for 20% off any long john style snuggly PJs.  Enter KNOWJAMMIES20 at checkout.

Another great quality I found about New Jammies, is that they are long enough for my long daughter, meaning she won’t outgrow them as quickly.  With adequate leg, arm, and belly length, these jams should last her awhile. My daughter tried hers out for movie night.  Even though she is watching the movie with Wall-E, she isn’t watching Wall-E.  She’s actually watching her favorite movie, Funny Face.  Yes the same with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. She has great taste for a 2 year old.  Then again for a naptime.  She loves her “tangermeen” jammies.

Erin: Because best friends must do everything exactly the same, my little one had to have the same Jammies as her BFF pictured above. You all know my love for organic cotton, these do not disappoint. Organic cotton is so comfy cozy, such a great idea to create adorable jams with this material. My daughter loved the tangerines on her Jammies. She kept pretending to eat them; she’s so cute! Something has to be said about the adorable packaging New Jammies does as well. They come with their own New Jammies Gift Bag and an adorable little book about the New Jammies fruits and vegetables. She LOVES the book. Such an adorable gift for any young child.
