Ella’s Kitchen baby foods (Giveaway)

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

I was at Erin’s house when I was first introduced to Ella’s Kitchen baby foods.  We both have picky eaters but are determined to cram as many nutrients into our children as possible.  Ella’s Kitchen makes this task an easy one because the kids actually WANT to eat them.  My daughter is already a big fan of this type of packaging.  Her applesauce crushers come this way and she loves the independence of it.  She also loves that she can shout out the flavor or just the color and pick on her own.  They are almost always mess-free and super easy to travel with, super fantastic to throw in a diaper bag.  Since she was already familiar with the packaging, she dug right in, trying the smoothies and even stage 1 baby food.  She’s way past the baby puree stage (thank God) but I certainly wish I had these when she was younger!  How much easier it would’ve been.

What’s unique about Ella’s Kitchen baby foods?  Well their baby foods contain ONLY organic fruits and vegetables, no added anything, not even water!  This means no fillers, no added sugar, and no added salt.  If you pay attention, you’ll see that most baby foods are diluted with water, decreasing the valuable nutrient levels.  Check out Ella’s Kitchen’s creative and tasty line!  To find out retailers near you who carry the line, click here.  Keep on the lookout because Ella’s Kitchen is also coming to more retailers like Diapers.com, Bristol Farms, Wegman’s, Whole Foods, etc.

ZoLi: Munch & On-the-Go

Monday, December 14th, 2009

zoli munch all 300x300 ZoLi: Munch & On the GoI recently found ZoLi, a company that specializes in non-toxic and eco-friendly products for children. Their line of Munch teethers are made from 100% silicone and are Nitrosamine & PVC free. Available in three designs and for only $5 each, the special textures will soothe your teethers gums and help ease some of their discomfort. The lightweight design make it easy for your little one to hang on to while they’re munching!

Traveling with an infant or toddler means packing a lot of supplies. ZoLi understood this need and created the On-the-Go travel formula and snack dispenser. BPA & Phthalate free, this accessory has 4 separate containers for formula and snacks. I love that the stacking system allows you to decide how many sections to take with you. For short trips, you can use one container for formula and a second for snacks. Longer trips, you can fill all four sections! The tall stacking format makes it incredibly easy to locate in your diaper bag so that zoli onthego 1 300x300 ZoLi: Munch & On the Goyou aren’t digging around wasting time. The handy easy-pour spout helps to transfer the contents into a bottle or cup easily without the mess. My daughter loved that she could help by putting her own snacks into the containers and spinning them shut. This is definitely a must-have for any mom!

Tiny Tongs

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

tinytongs 300 225x300 Tiny TongsWhen your child begins to eat finger foods, they also have this very strong desire to do things by themselves. Meal times can be a very frustrating process for parents as you stand back and fight the urge to help them feed themselves. Food typically ends up everywhere. Mom and entrepreneur, Cary Bice, dealt with these same frustrations. This is why Cary and her husband, Justin, created Tiny Tongs.

Tiny Tongs are recommended for children one to five years old.  They come in pink, blue, yellow and orange. Tiny Tongs are non toxic (lead free, BPA free, Phthalate free) and are dishwasher safe. I was able to try out Tiny Tongs with my daughter and she loved them! It was effortless to pick up peaches, noodles or oranges with her Tiny Tongs.

Your little ones will see how easy it is to feed themselves with the non-slip ergonomical grip. The posable grip to be customized for every child and will help them gain confidence in the ability to feed themselves.

Beaba: Feeding Accessories

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Brand new from Beaba, the very well loved creators of the Babycook, a new line of Feeding Accessories. Included in the line are plates, bowls, utensils, cups and even a lunchbox. Each item is made from durable BPA Free plastic with slip-resistant bases in some fun gender neutral colors. Their utensils have both spoons and forks and are the perfect size for toddler hands. They also have a small arch to them with a small inlay of slip resistant material over the Beaba name to ensure that even the messiest of hands can maintain a constant grip on them. I have to say that they really are my go-to utensils.

beaba bowl Beaba: Feeding Accessoriesbeaba spoon Beaba: Feeding Accessoriesbeaba cup Beaba: Feeding Accessories

The Bowls and Cups sit lower that most others and this is really the only “cup” I feel safe letting my daughter drink juice out of. You can see the fatter rim on the glasses, which helps to prevent any accidental bumping. I haven’t seen any other cups like it on the market. Up until we received these, my daughter was only given juice in a sippy cup to save me the headache from cleaning up the messes. These are really great! She never spills on purpose, it’s usually a slight bump as she’s reaching for something. I’ve given Beaba’s set my “bump” test and they really don’t budge! The bowls are the perfect size for cereal, oatmeal, snacks, anything really. My daughter is fidgity when she eats, but these bowls stay in place wherever I put them down. Items that are safe, multi-functional, modern and will ease your stress during meal times!

Click here to check out the entire Beaba Feeding line. Plates, bowls and cups come in sets of three and utensils come in sets of four (8 items total). The entire collection is dishwasher and microwave safe!

Zoom Spoon

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

zoomspoon 149x300 Zoom SpoonHow many times do you sit there with a spoon in your hand calling your child’s name, making all types of weird noises to get their attention so that they look at the spoon coming towards their mouth? Our daughter was always distracted with something when we were trying to get her to eat. As parents, we’ve been pretending spoons are flying airplanes for years. In fact, I have memories of my parents doing the spoon airplane when I was little! Zoom Spoon was created to make our lives a little easier. There’s a light in the cockpit of the plane that flashes when you press the little button on the side while simultaneously playing music as it flies through the air capturing your child’s attention.

The Zoom Spoon also comes with a small book titled Finicky Philip the Picky Eater. It’s a short story about a little baby boy who doesn’t like to eat his food, but loves playing with it. This is a great gift for any new mom! The spoon easily detaches from the plane so that your little one can have fun playing with the airplane. The Zoom Spoon comes with three extra spoons that are all dishwasher safe.

WeilBaby: feeding products

4124967830 d259c7ee32 m WeilBaby: feeding products

Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D. is well known for his teachings about healthy living, smart eating and natural medicine. In fact, the last time I was checking out at the local organic grocery store, I saw him on the cover of a popular health magazine. Dr. Weil recently started a new line of baby products to ensure that our babies stay safe and healthy with naturally BPA and toxin free items.

I have to say, these items are gorgeous and modern while also being safe for our babies and toddlers. The Dr. Weil Glass Nurser Bottles come in 4 oz glass and 8 oz glass sizes with stage 1 slow flow silicon nipples (faster flow also available), which are the ideal size for newborns. One of my biggest pet peeves with nurser bottles are all the pieces. I felt like we were always doing dishes with thousands of pieces when my daughter was an infant. Each of my old bottles had five pieces. I used them because they were BPA free and had an air venting piece that helped keep bubbles out of my daughter’s belly. Dr. Weil has stepped up the game. He’s created a very impressive and easy to clean, one-piece AirWave Venting System. This system is clinically proven to reduce colic and was developed by world-class engineers.  They also make a line of BPA free plastic nurser bottles called the Tritan. These come in 5 oz and 9 oz bottles and use the same innovative AirWave venting.

After your child is ready to graduate from a nurser to a training cup, Dr. Weil’s Training Cups are 5 oz. and made with the same revolutionary Tritan material as the BPA and Toxin Free plasic nursers. These are also made with the standard AirWave venting and somehow does all this with fun, bright, modern colors and still with only using a few components. From here your child would move to the 9 oz. Drinking Cups with all the same features as his other impressive items. One of the best parts is that all of his items are dishwasher safe!

Dr. Weil has also expanded the line to include the new WeilBaby Ortho Pacifier. They come in a two-pack of blue, clear or pink and are made of 100% toxin-free silicone. Orthodontic pacifiers help the natural development of teeth and gums and can be used day or night. Their innovative design doesn’t impact sleep for your baby.

WeilBaby has an exciting offer for our ITKM readers. They’re offering a discount on your entire order when you use the code ITKM during your checkout. Click here to check out all of the WeilBaby products and to place your order today! Want to check them out first? WeilBaby is also sold at select Babies R’ Us stores for you to check out! Beaba: Baby Cook (must have)

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

beaba 300x240 Beaba: Baby Cook (must have)When my daughter was first starting out with eating fruits and vegetables, I had heard of making my own baby food. Problem was that I was still in survival mode. I thought that making food was time consuming, complicated and expensive. I thought it was much easier to head over to the grocery store, pick out my selection of the week and then head back home. Once she entered into the finger food stage, things changed. She became picky and so I had to get more creative. I started sneaking in pureed vegetables into whatever I could. I was on fire, I made dozens of every kind of vegetable purees you could imagine. I’d dedicate an entire day to it because it involved several steps. Some required baking the I’d puree them in the food processor. Others would steam on the stove top before heading to the food processor. All steps required a ridiculous amount of dishes. At this point I realized how much money I really was saving by making my own purees. I also realized that it’s not as hard as I thought….just requires a lot of clean up. I’ve seen Beaba’s Baby Cook on the market for quite some time. But kind of thought “Is that really necessary?” Well, read on!

I opened the box from Beaba and it was pretty easy to put the entire Baby Cook together quickly. Even with a toddler tugging at my pant leg chanting “What you doin’? What you doin’? What you doin’?”. I read the instructions to cook my carrots. Okay, fill water in container to the fill line according to the type of food and pour in reservoir. Similar to my morning coffee, easy enough. I snap in my container just like the food processor, press the switch and it’s already steaming. On the stove it takes me about 10 minutes just to boil the water! Within just a few short minutes, the light turns off. It’s DONE! Okay, so the first step was easy, how about the next! So I use the handy dandy spatula stick to lift out the steamer basket. I pour out just a little bit of water that was at the bottom of the container after all the steaming. I leave in a little bit in order to have enough liquid to puree the carrots.

4114213150 204d36db52 Beaba: Baby Cook (must have)
From here, I put the container back on the cooker. I tip my steamer basket to drop the carrots into it, insert the cover, put on the top on and bam, I’m pureeing. You can use the spatula to clean the sides off of the container while you are pureeing if any of the food clings to the sides. The entire process was done in no more than 15 minutes. Then as if that wasn’t good enough, I only had a few small items to wash!! I had wondered if Beaba’s Baby Cook was really worth the money, and I’m here to tell you that it is. It will save you so much time, which as moms, we need all the extra time we can get. It will save you so much money by making your own baby food. Lastly it will save your hands and frustration from all those dishes!

4113445347 f9d80c2c20 Beaba: Baby Cook (must have)

One of the best things about making your own baby food is that you don’t need to add any additional fillers, sugars or preservatives like you can find in jarred baby food. The Baby Cook is so versatile, you can cook vegetables, meats, fruits and even grains! This way, as your children get older, you can make thicker purees to give them a chunkier consistency. In their manual, they even give you several recipes for great fruit and veggie mixtures to make for your child’s growing palette.

If you make your own baby food, then you probably also freeze small portions to be used at a later time. Previously I was putting my purees in freezer safe sandwich bags. This is not only awful for the environment, but it costs a lot of money. Beaba’s Multiportion Freezer Trays are made from BPA-Free silicone and designed with seven separate 2 oz cups for freezing. To use a portion, simply slide one out of the tray and heat it up in the Beaba Baby Cooker or in the microwave. These are truly exceptional trays and the ability to have seven purees in one container is also so convenient. My freezer is organized! You won’t find me digging through the freezer looking around for that last puree of beets that I just KNOW is in there…(somewhere).

OOTS!: two dishes and a cup (and fork and spoon)

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

OOTS! was founded by Arian Roefs and Godfried Konings in 2004.  After moving from Holland to New York and starting their own graphic design firm, they were inspired to design and develop children’s products after their first born.  They looked around at the current kids market and were underwhelmed with what they saw. OOTS! brings a fun and modern spin to mealtime related items for kids. They’ve applied their functional and fresh designs to dishes, bibs and lunchboxes that are unlike any others on the market.

OOTS! has created fantastically designed dish sets for kids called Two Dishes and a Cup.  The exclusive shape of the dishes are great for young kids.  My daughter successfully ate a whole bowl of tomato soup with minimal mess.  Quite impressive if you know my daughter.  The fork and spoon are easy for her to use as well.  The dishes are made of 100% melamine, a durable plastic, and are dishwasher safe, but NOT microwave safe.

cups OOTS!: two dishes and a cup (and fork and spoon)

Erin: I’ve been drooling over OOTS! Juicy Melon (the green and purple set) designed items for quite some time. Sometimes I come across items that I HAVE TO HAVE, and this is one of them. Let me just tell you that OOTS! definitely doesn’t disappoint. The clever design of the plate ensures my daughter never spills her dinner, even when she walks across the room with it in hand because she thinks she’s a big girl. The adorable bowl is the perfect size for her oatmeal or even a handful of snacks. My daughter loves this bowl so much that she’s actually been asking for cereal or anything that she can eat from her OOTS! dishes. Apparently she loves them as much as I do! The colors and modern design are fun for not only our little ones, but us too.

Right now you can receive 30% off dishes and bbibs by entering oots30 at checkout.  To purchase, go here. OOTS! will be introducing an all ORGANIC bbib this month, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that!

Orgain: keeping families healthy

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

4072967523 91044b9d69 o Orgain: keeping families healthy

An organic, ready to drink meal replacement, you say? I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I have tried my fair share of drinkable meals.  I remember holding my breath and chugging them before cheerleading competitions for an extra boost.  Who knows what was really in there, definitely some artificial colors and flavor, and I KNOW it wasn’t organic.  Well Orgain is 100% organic and developed by a doctor.  He used only the highest quality organic ingredients to provide a perfectly balanced meal.  Ingredients such as whey protein (16 grams!), brown rice, omega-3’s, fiber, green tea and pomegranate extracts, as well as 24 vitamins and minerals! Orgain has the antioxidant equivalent of TEN fruits and vegetables!!

Incredibly, this 11 oz mega drink contains ACTUAL fruits and vegetables.  I know, I can’t believe it either.  Organic Kale, beets, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, blueberries, bananas, acai berry, apple, and raspberry, and it tastes delicious.  The sugar content is low (13 grams) and it is derived from organic evaporated cane juice.

Everyone who knows me, knows I preach about the proper balance of protein, carbs, and healthy fats being the key to staying thin and healthy.  Now us active moms have a solution for on-the-go sustainable energy.  And they’re great for kids who are picky eaters like mine.  Other great uses for this product are post-workout replenishment, illness fighting power, pregnancy fuel, or just a healthy snack in between meals.  At only 255 calories, you can really do it!  This drink will give you the energy you need without the caffeine, which is great for me because I CAN’T drink caffeine.

As if that wasn’t enough, Orgain gives back! The doctor who created Orgain is a cancer survivor, which is something clearly close to his heart.  Orgain donates a portion of their net proceeds to those dealing with cancer who can not afford adequate medical and nutritional care. “Orgain will work across the globe to financially and nutritionally support families and children suffering from cancer – because no one should fight this battle alone.”

I can’t say enough positive things about this product.  After devouring my free Orgain samples, it was clear that these need to be (and will be) a staple in my home, and they should be in yours too!  It comes in two delicious flavors, Creamy Chocolate Fudge, and Sweet Vanilla Bean.

Utterly Yours: for happier mothers & babies (giveaway)

coriander aqua 300x300 Utterly Yours: for happier mothers & babies (giveaway)I love finding Mom Invented products because as moms, we know what we need to help increase our efficiency, problem is that most of the times products don’t exist! Utterly Yours carries two products made from eco-friendly memory foam, their Breast Pillow and Pregnancy Pillow that do just this very thing, help make our lives easier.

The Breast Pillow was designed to resolve a common issue for moms, giving you back the use of your hands while breastfeeding. The pillow helps to provide support while also giving you the most optimal position for nursing. While other products have hit the market focusing on how to help the baby be more comfortable while feeding, this is the first to help us out! Our test mommy loved this pillow. It’s extremely easy to use and the breathable fabric was comfortable on the skin. The pillow gave her the freedom to multitask for the first time while feeding.

step3 199x300 Utterly Yours: for happier mothers & babies (giveaway)Their Pregnancy Pillow is as cute as it is comfortable. Sleeping while pregnant is not easy, period. You can’t change positions very often, we’re not allowed to sleep on our backs, can’t sleep on your belly, back hurts all the time, the list goes on and on. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had one of the largest pregnancy pillows ever. The only problem is that it’s huge and there’s no place to put it! it’s such an eyesore and was such a chore to flip the entire pillow in order to turn over in the middle of the night. Utterly Yours Pregnancy Pillow is an adorable cube that unfolds into two triangles. One triangle is made from eco-friendly memory foam to help support your growing belly. The other triangle is made from a higher density foam to support your back and stabilize your body while sleeping on your side. The great thing about this pillow is that it can fold right up as soon as you wake up and even be slid under your bed out of sight! With six patterns to choose from and an easy to read sizing chart, you’re bound to find the perfect compliment to your decor to help you finally get a better night’s sleep! Lifefactory provides you with a safe and simple solution to those plastic baby bottles.  No matter what you do to sanitize and clean, the plastic bottles just look dingy.  With all the chemical leeching plastic scares, and not to mention the plastic landfills, glass bottles have become the obvious answer.  But your baby needs to be protected from glass, and the glass bottles need to be protected from your baby (hello bottle spikes!)  Try out Lifefactory’s glass bottles with silicone sleeves.  They come in FANTASTIC colors, are BPA and Phthalate free, and environmentally friendly.  Not to mention easy to clean and sanitize.  Bottles are sold in 4 and 9 oz sizes. Erin: I was one of those parents that had a newborn baby when the whole BPA scare hit CNN and had all the mom’s buzzing. I already had BPA free bottles purchased online before the broadcast was over. I have to tell you that I was STILL nervous with my BPA free plastic bottles and truly wanted to switch to a glass bottle, but petrified to do it! My daughter has a really good arm on her and I was positive they would all be in a million pieces after their first use. My ears perked up the second I saw Lifefactory’s products hit the market. Not only are they completely safe, they’re gorgeous! I have to tell you that I was intrigued to see if the silicone sleeve truly protected the glass bottle and well, I decided to give it a drop onto my travertine floor. What’s the point of reading our reviews if we don’t put the items through a full line of testing! So, I gave it a drop, and holy moly, the bottle is perfect!! That’s truly impressive that it can stand the test of time (or a drop from a high distance onto a hard surface). They have nipples available in four flows: Stage 1 (0-3 months), Stage 2 (3-6 months), Stage 3 (6+ months), Y cut (fastest flow).

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

I’m always on the hunt for better, safer products for my daughter. Sas, one of our guest writers had asked us to look into Kinderville. They make high-grade silicone storage jars, bowls and cups. Unlike regular plastic, their products are bacteria resistant, BPA free, Phthalate free and Lead free. I haven’t microwaved a plate, bowl or any of my daughter’s previous food items, well, EVER!!

Sarah and I were lucky enough to try out a few of their products and both of us were truly impressed. My daughter loved the vibrant colors and barely let me wash it with soap before she was using it all. The storage jars are probably my absolute favorite. They can store 3.5 fl/oz and seal super tight! You can fill it to the brim and lay the lid on top, give it a little push and it creates a suction by pushing the air out. To open you simply pinch the knob in the center of the lid and off it comes. Easy peasy. We love these for not only snacks, but for storing any of my daughter’s leftover food.  But there is more to Kinderville than the storage jars.  The plates don’t slip all over the table and are more a plate/bowl variation, which I love.  They are the perfect portion size.  The cups are also the perfect size for your child’s small hands, and easy to grip.  All products are virtually indestructible and child-proof.

Coming this Holiday 2009, Kinderville is adding three new products to their line! I was lucky enough to test out their new Freezer Trays. Using the same silicone as in their other products, they have these small storage containers for you to use with purees or leftovers you’d like to freeze. Each pocket holds approx 1/4 cup of food. The clear lid lays on the top and secures over the small ridge with a little pressure for a tight seal. When you want to use one of them, simply turn it over and run one of the pockets under warm water and it will slide right out! The other products coming out this holiday are Large Storage Jars that hold 10 fl/oz and popsicle molds.
