Yedi 061010 1406 Yedi Houseware: polka dot chic travel mugs

I have a weird obsession with my travel mugs. I get all possessive over it and absolutely go bananas if someone else uses it. Last time I had this weird attachment, my husband said I was silly and let his friend take my mug (without my knowledge) to the golf course as they played. They returned with no mugs in hand and I stopped breathing for a few minutes. I actually made them call the course to see if anyone found them. Sigh, told ya I was crazy. I recently found my new beloved travel mug from Yedi Housewares. They make these gorgeous Polka Dot Travel Mugs that are made with a double wall porcelain to provide insulation for your hot drinks. The cup is topped with a reusable silicone lid and I’m not letting anyone else use it! The cup is microwave and dishwasher safe (unlike most other travel mugs) and you’ll be saving the environment as you drink your treat in this stylish mug. The lid is perfectly snug on top of the cup and absolutely zero leaks. The cup gets a cozy warm, but never hot, so your hands can hold your steaming hot drink without a sleeve.

I dare you to browse around their items, their whimsical designs are absolutely beautiful. Their Polka Dot Tea Set was just featured in Oprah at Home Magazine.  Their Candies line is so simple, yet elegant and fun. Pull these items out the next time you have people over and I guarantee they’ll be complementing you on them and begging to know where you got them. Modern, stylish and trendsetting. Head over to their site here. Hurry though, they’re all selling out fast! Last time I saw them on a sale site, they literally lasted ten minutes. TEN!

Bella Tunno: fancy, fun, fresh neccessories + giveaway

Friday, August 27th, 2010

How many times have we, as mamas, encountered situations where we thought,”this is just not working”?  Countless times wishing for solutions, or just something better to make those hectic crazy days a little bit easier.  Bella Tunno addresses such problems and offers solutions with style.

Bella Tunno is a children and baby neccessory (necessary accessory) company dedicated to the balance of fashion, function and philanthropy. They have a huge celebrity following, and are all the buzz in major cities around the country.  It’s simple to see why they have caught the eye of chic mamas.  They sell quality made, functional products. Bella Tunno is also committed to donating a portion of every sale to the Matt Tunno Make A Difference Fund. To read more about all of the different charities that the Make a Difference Fund benefits, click here.

Their products range from diapers bags and Little Linkers for your stroller to a Oopsie Ditty, a parent survival kit full of “in a pinch” products.  All of these products are fabulous solutions that feature absolutely adorable and fun fabrics, and at an affordable price.  Upon looking through their catalog, you will find yourself  “ooooo”-ing and “ahhhh”-ing at all the products and thinking,”why didn’t I think of that?!”

Test Tot:

My personal favorite of their products is their Designer Diners. They are portable place mats, wipe-able oil-cloth  on one side and a chalk mat on the other, non-toxic chalk included. They come in a variety of  fabulous prints, perfect for little boys and girls. Kade will barely sit still at restaurants while we wait for our food. (Yes, we are that family with the children who are so wiggly and fussy at dinner that you wonder if their parents ever feed them.) Just in case you’re wondering, they are well fed:).  But the little paper and crayons handed out at your typical restaurant, tend to be more advanced than Kade can understand. He is very coordinated when it comes to his large muscles but fine motor skills are proving to be difficult for my left handed little man. Getting him to sit down and wait for dinner, let alone attempt to do something he’s not interested in, is a recipe for disaster. This is why I love the Designer Diner. He makes sure I have it when we leave the house for lunch with friends or dinner with family. He even insists that he uses it for meals at home. I am so glad that he can be creative and entertained at the same time, all while looking stylish. I have gotten so many compliments on our Diner from waitresses and several moms just passing by. I am so in love with Bella Tunno and you will be too!

Adiri Ultimate Nurser: no nipple confusion here

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

L12418937 Adiri Ultimate Nurser: no nipple confusion hereAdiri is a company run by a gaggle of moms who asked a bold question: if a bottle is supposed to mimic breastfeeding, shouldn’t it look more like a breast?  Touche ladies.  These moms took nature’s model and created a bottle with a soft and supple texture with a dome shape.

The Adiri Ultimate Nurser is an award-winning bottle that agrees with “breast is best”, but knows that isn’t always possible.  The Adiri Ultimate Nurser really makes transition easy from the breast to bottle.  The nipple is very comfortable in your baby’s mouth, and being more realistic, offers a natural latch process.  The bottom half is firmer, perfect for parents firm hand.  Not only is this bottle ingenuitive, but it is smart and easy to use and clean.  The entire bottom vent twists off.  The “Petal Vent” reduces air ingestion that can lead to gas and symptoms of colic.  Also included is a warming disk that fits snugly around the base, insuring warm formula, and an leak-free seal.  Make sure to take the disk off during feeding.  Complete with an improved filling cap, which seals the bottle for transport.  Of course all pieces are BPA-Free and Phthalate-Free.

Buy your Ultimate Nursers here at The WaterGeeks in blue, orange or clear.

speesees: fun, fair, & organic

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

eljp a1 speesees: fun, fair, & organicSpeesees is one of those companies that you hear about and it quickly becomes a favorite.  Their bright, creative, and fun clothing is all 100% organic and 100% adorable.  Everything that speesees does and stands for is exactly what you want to hear.  This company is not only good to your children, but good to the environment surrounding them and even the workers and communities that help make this operation successful.

From speesees: “speesees fabrics are treated with low-impact and herbal dyes, prints are made with pigments and pvc-free plastisols, and we skip the dioxin + formaldehyde altogether. our soft + durable cotton is long-staple (long fibers :: no prickles) and extra-comfy for kids…”

“…meanwhile, in a small village in india…surrounded by an organic garden, our factory’s limestone walls create an open, airy ambiance, and chai breaks twice a day make work days pretty sweet. our factory is certified  SA8000, a social accountability standard for decent working conditions (including workplace safety, renumeration, fair working hours, no discrimination, child labor, etc)…”

“…for every dollar that you spend at speesees, it is used for a variety of purposes within the indian village where we manufacture: from buying school supplies and a water pump for the zari pada school, to building a playground called *ananya playground* (named after our manufacturer’s daughter, ananya) at the local orphanage.”

IMG 42891 557x1024 speesees: fun, fair, & organic

IMG 45181 663x1024 speesees: fun, fair, & organicI was drawn to their dress/bloomer combos.  The bloomers make the outfit wearable ANYWHERE, while the dress satisfies my daughter’s “dress-only” attitude.   Making a great first impression, the products ordered come in beautiful, eco-friendly packaging.  The clothing is so super soft but not see-through thin like a lot of organic apparel is.  I can tell that this is an outfit that will withstand many washings, and for kid’s clothing that’s a big plus.  With my skinny and long daughter, I was THRILLED that the bloomers ran a little small and actually fit her for once… so order accordingly.   After her countless swirls, twirls and eyelash battings, she resumed her day, playing fiercely, eating, and sleeping.  This outfit was comfy for her and kept up with her extremely active personality.  Never once was I adjusting her clothing, top or bottom, which is quite rare.  When nap time came she didn’t want to take it off, unlike some of her stiffer dresses.  And when she got up, the outfit was wrinkle-free and ready to go.  What more could one ask for from an outfit?  This is a company to remain loyal to.  Check out their other items ranging from feeding time necessities to bed time essentials.

4884228418 2763856213 m speesees: fun, fair, & organicErin: I fell in love with the Speesees Kimono Dress in Robin’s Egg. It’s such a fun and refreshing color mixed with a classy and traditional style. The material is 100% interlock organic cotton and let me just tell you it’s thick and oh so very soft. It reminds me of baby blankets I had for my daughter when she was iddy biddy. I found myself telling her everyday that she couldn’t wear it because it was too nice. I have to remind myself that it’s ok to let her be a kid and get messy (even in my favorite dresses). Then…dun dun dun the dreaded blueberry/raspberry fruit smoothie spilled all over the entire dress as she took the lid off of her cup while in her car seat. I couldn’t even look at it until we got home. I sprayed the dress down, threw it in the wash and EVERYTHING came right out of the dress. I can’t even begin to tell you how impressed I am that not only is this beautiful, but it’s completely durable as well. So no more fears from this girl about her getting her dress dirty anymore. Two thumbs up from this mama…and her daughter who was crying because she thought she ruined her favorite dress. LOVE

Wildtree: simple, healthy, natural

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Packaged foods are the devil.  We all know this by now.  Not only are they loaded with icky preservatives, salts, and artificial flavors, but they just never taste as good as the homemade version.  Sure it is easier to just run to the store and grab everything off the shelves, but it’s time to rethink eating.  We use foods to fuel our bodies and all those unnecessary additives really screw with your insides.  Our bodies just weren’t built to eat these man-made ingredients.  They can cause illness, allergies, and obviously, obesity.  Take control of the dinner table!  We need to teach our kids how to properly nourish themselves.  Teach them early and they will take those skills with them throughout their lives, passing them on to their own kids.

Go to the market and buy fresh, learn to bake and prepare delicious meals, these are the obvious things to do.  But I do understand that as parents, we’re busy!  Even a stay at home mom or dad doesn’t have the time to make fresh meals from scratch everyday.  Luckily, there are some great companies out there that understand and provide shortcuts.

168 Wildtree: simple, healthy, natural10632 European Dipping Oil Wildtree: simple, healthy, naturalWildtree is wonderful company that creates spice blends, sauces, and powder mixes for you, making cooking a snap! Every Wildtree product is all natural, free of the aforementioned icky preservatives and artificial flavors.  They fight the “sauce from a jar, soup from a can” generational mentality.  Wildtree does the hard part, hand delivering you the “from scratch” food mixes from breads and pizza dough to soups and stews.  Their culinary spice blends are amazing as well, and that is what I tried out.  Make your own dips, dressings, and sauces (and save yourself from sodium overload).  Each blend comes with instructions and makes a DELICIOUS product.  Rub them on proteins, mix them with creams to make dips, sauces, and spreads.  They even have a Bloody Mary mix! (Did you hear that Erin?) Instead of lengthy, complicated, time consuming recipes, Wildtree products enable you to create spectacular, great tasting dishes with just three or four ingredients.

Little Grips: for little hands

Friday, July 16th, 2010

The ongoing battle of the utensils.  We’ve all been there.  With my daughter, I have gone through utensil after utensil, seeking the most efficient pair.  I’ve been relatively happy with forks I have found in the past, but spoons can be difficult.  I must admit it is 100% the child’s fault.  They just can’t seem to understand the refined “scooping and turning” method.  Although my 3 year old can use adult-sized silverware, she still prefers the ones that fit her small mouth a little better.

Recently, I was introduced to Little Grips, which are specially made for toddlers.  The unique handle makes this pair SUPER easy and safe to use.  The fork can hold more than your typical “baby fork” and the spoon doesn’t require any refined motor skills to use.  My only complaint is that the spoon is shallow.  Other than that, the set is perfect for your kid’s little hands and little mouth.  Another great point is that the handle is completely choke-free, unlike a long sleek utensil.  The handle is held comfortably in the palm, giving your toddler complete control.  I found the bumpy surface of the grip to be really helpful, as opposed to slippery-smooth handles of the competitors.  Dishwasher Safe and only $10.95 for the set!  Order your Little Grips today!

SodaStream: cleaning up our trash, one soda at a time + giveaway

sodastream jet stream SodaStream: cleaning up our trash, one soda at a time + giveaway

Wow.  I’m not even sure how I originally came across this product called SodaStream.  But I sure am glad I found it!  The SodaStream makes carbonated water and soda in under 30 seconds, mess free.  A CO2 tank is easily attached (and refilled) and with 3 or so pushes on the top button, your filtered water is now carbonated.  Make sure to hear the loud ZAP noise 3 times (for average carbonation).  On the front is your reusable liter bottle that you fill with cold, filtered water.  Three zaps later, and it’ all fizz.  Then it is up to you what flavor you want.

Choose from a wide variety (30) of  concentrated soda mixes from regular to diet: familiar soda tap brand flavors, juices, even energy drinks.  I tried many flavors and found these homemade sodas to taste even better than the store bought.  I’d say my favorites so far are Diet Pink Grapefruit, Diet Lemon Lime, Ginger Ale, and Root Beer.  Enjoy the sodas, sparkling water, iced teas, etc alone or make a fantastic cocktail, and they do make a great cocktail! Your homemade sodas are typically healthier than the store bought kind, lower in calories, sugar, and sodium.  You can check out the nutrition facts here. Make sure to slowly pour in the syrups at a tilt as to not cause a fizzy overflow (especially with the Energy one!)  If you find the measured amount to make the soda too sweet (I didn’t), then simply reduce the amount of soda mix you add.

The best part about these bottles is that one flavor bottle can fill 12 liters of soda, or 33 cans!!  Think of the savings to your wallet and to the environment. Globally, 206 billion liters of bottled water were consumed in 2008 (Zenith International Global Bottled Water Report, 2008). The energy required to make water bottles in the US only, is equivalent to 17 million barrels of oil (Container Recycling Institute, 2002).  According to the US Recycling Institute, more than 80% of bottles in the US do not get recycled and end up in landfills. Also, an estimated 4.7 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions were produced in the process of replacing the 134 billion bottles and cans not recycled in 2005.  Help do your part by using your own filtered tap water and make your own tonics, teas, and sodas.

Bobble: filter water as you drink

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Americans spend $15 billion a year on our obsession with portable, filtered water.  That’s a hit to the purse, but an even larger hit to our environment.  Each year, nearly 1.5 million barrels of oil are used to make plastic water bottles for your convenience.  You buy them by the case, chug them at the gym, in the car, and even at home, out of just pure laziness.  These discarded water bottles flood not only our landfills, but our oceans, and gorgeous landscapes.  In fact, 223,392 plastic bottles were removed from US beaches on a single day last September.  Litter bugs across the world are quickly ruining the view, and wildlife habitats.

For years I have tried my best to minimize my footprint I leave on this beautiful planet.  Water has seemed like one of the easier fixes.  With my filtered taps at home and filter pitchers in the fridge, I thought I had figured it all out.  I can use my own tap water supply and filter it myself, pouring it constantly into reusable sports bottles.  Well sometimes you are out and you need water.  I live in the desert where it is now in the 100′s everyday, already reaching 110 in June.  So for us, water is an hourly essential that must be accessible at all times.  How many water bottles can one person carry?  So here and there, I’m forced to buy a plastic bottle of water to refuel myself or daughter.  My dehydration clouds my judgment… and then the guilt sets in.  But what other choice do I have?

Bobble has invented a ground-breaking, earth-shattering water bottle that will undoubtedly change the way we drink water.  The Bobble comes with its own filtration device built right inside the bottle.  So no matter where you are, if you have access to water, be it fountain or spigot, you can have fresh filtered water. Bobble is made from recycled plastic.  I carry this bottle around empty as my spare water bottle.  I know my huge KOR ONE hydration vessel will eventually run dry while out on daily errands and trips.  This is where Bobble comes in to play.  I immediately put the Bobble into action this weekend while out at the pool.  Instead of getting plastic cups filled with water, I simply asked for the water to be put straight into my Bobble.  The newly filtered water tasted pure as the driven snow.  The bottle was super easy to use, no leakage, and came with a clear cap to pop on top, keeping the spout clean.

bobble lineup DRY onWhite 1024x567 Bobble: filter water as you drink

Each Bobble replaces 300 plastic water bottles.  THREE HUNDRED PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES.  When the carbon filter runs out, you simply buy a replacement and you’re set for another 2 months (or 40 gallons).  You can switch up your filter color every time you buy a new one, at only $6.95 a filter. Order your Bobble today for only $9.95 a pop.

Poolside hydration… perfect.

Tea Forte: gourmet teas from morning to night

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

I grew up in a household where my mom was always drinking tea. Iced tea, hot tea, all tea all day. I’ve tried a few different teas throughout my years, but I’d always end up adding honey or sugar because the taste was always a bit flat. I’d find myself gravitating towards apple cinnamon flavors because I just loved the smell more than the taste. I have to say, I fell in love with the look of Tea Forte before I even tried it. I thought the adorable leaf on top was simply added in the pictures as an adorable detail, but I was wrong, they’re actually on the tea bags! Each tea infuser is made out of silk and has a leaf attached to the top for easy lifting of the infuser once it’s brewed to your desired strength. Their variety of teas is extremely impressive and the flavors are heavenly. No joke! This is the first time EVER that I didn’t add a sweetener to my tea to give it flavor. You add the infuser to your hot water and the water explodes with color and flavor. Their Cafe Cup made of porcelain has an adorable custom cover to keep the tea hot and the leaf on the infuser pops out of the top for easy lifting.  The flavors are delicious and instantly relax and satisfy your taste buds. I can’t believe it, but I’ve actually pushed aside my coffee for a Tea Forte infuser in the morning.

teaforte Tea Forte: gourmet teas from morning to night

If you prefer loose tea, their collection is superb and you’ll be sure to impress guests with how elegant the teas look and taste. Their Kati Loose Tea System is seriously one of the cutest cups I’ve seen in a while. I want to make tea just so I can use this cup! It has a double wall made out of ceramic with a stainless steel infuser that makes using loose tea so easy. The cup keeps it nice and toasty until your last drop.

If you’re an iced tea lover, like my husband, their Tea-Over-Ice is right up your alley. Using their Brewing Pitcher, you fill the bottom portion completely with ice. In the top portion you pour boiling water over the infuser of your choice, steep 3 – 5 minutes and pour over the ice and enjoy! Delicious iced tea, chilled and ready to drink in 5 minutes. My hubby likes to add some lemonade to the iced tea for an additional kick. It’s a great variety to be able to change up the iced tea flavor. Typically your choice is plain, or plain. :) Tea Forte has five different flavors of iced teas.

So they’ve mastered the morning tea, the afternoon iced tea. What’s left? The evening cocktail of course! Their brand new Cocktail Mixology set is as fun to use as it is gorgeous. The box comes with two beakers (yup, like the ones you used in high school) and a booklet with several recipes to try and even mocktail recipes for the pregnant girls or for the people who don’t prefer alcohol. Fill to the lines on the beaker with the items, add in the infuser and enjoy. So much fun to be able to easily make such a variety of cocktails without having to buy different items for each one.

Hybrid Plastic Mug Lake m Aladdin: sustainable products + giveawayIt’s always a great thing to find products that are made from recycled materials.  It’s even better when they look and feel as chic as Aladdin products.  Aladdin’s Sustain line is made with eCycle, their own mixture of recycled plastics containing 95% recycled plastics, including 25% post consumer content.  These products are not only made from recycled materials, but they are  also 100% recyclable.

Aladdin offers a wide range of products all of which are BPA free.  I was lucky enough to try out a snack container from the ALA 101 Aladdin: sustainable products + giveawaySustain line, which is the perfect size for my diaper bag.  It is also  easy enough for my 3 year old to use, yet stylish enough for carrying my own healthy snacks.  I was also able to try the 16 oz To-Go Tumbler, which I was particularly excited about.   I take this tumbler with me everywhere, it’s great to use when you pick up your favorite iced drinks at the coffee shop.  Popular coffee shops sometimes offer you a discount on your drink when you bring your own reusable mug/tumbler. Just another great incentive for remembering to bring your reusable items with you on the go.

Side note: My family and I recently participated in a local beach clean up.  Want to know what we found tangled in seaweed on the shore?  Green straws – tons of them.  We all know where those green straws come from.

I was surprised to find Aladdin products everywhere I turned, available in my favorite stores.  Since discovering Aladdin, I have purchased more items, including the sleek Senja Desktop Mug for my husband to take to work.   We all know how difficult men can be to shop for, this one came up a winner.

GIVEAWAY: Aladdin is offering this set of products, pictured below, valued at $50 for one winner.  Visit their website to see what they have to offer and comment here on what you like!  Included in this set:

Zak! Nibble Tray & Smoothie Sipper + giveaway

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

My daughter is a snacker, always has been and even though her pediatrician didn’t seem worried, internally I always was. When I first saw the Nibble Tray created by Dr. Sears in his products by Zak! line I knew it was right up my snackers alley. Along with the products you receive from Dr. Sears, they include a small packet that discusses eating habits and tips. He actually recommends that children graze on frequent meals throughout the day versus sitting down for three large meals. That grazing allows a child’s digestive system to work better and provides a slow and steady supply of fuel for their brain. Not only that, but big meals trigger reflux in a lot of children and grazers tend to suffer less because meals pass more quickly through the stomach and are easier to digest. Plus it’s great for maintaining a healthy weight by controlling your child’s metabolism better. I can’t begin to tell you how amazing this made me feel as a mother of a grazer. I used to worry that she ate this way, now I’m happy she does!

The Nibble Tray by Zak! has several little compartments so that you can add a variety of foods for them to snack on. I love that each compartment has a small raised section with hints to help you provided a well balanced snack, whether it’s dairy, veggies, fruit or even bread. The green removable stem of the pineapple tray is weighted and keeps items cooler, so it’s perfect for yogurt, applesauce or even dips for the veggies. His handy sheet helps guide you with ideas for “Grow Foods” that you can add to the trays and reminds you to try new foods several times. That’s the great thing about this tray. I add one new item for her every time she has it. This way all the focus isn’t on that item, but it’s just added for her to try along with all her other favorites. She LOVES this tray and so do I!

4633730164 4f5d4b4f46 Zak! Nibble Tray & Smoothie Sipper + giveaway

Summer time is here and I get in the mood for smoothies. Sometimes healthy veggie smoothies other times fruit smoothies. I used to have one major issue….I never had a good cup to use for smoothies! I’d always just pour them into a glass and deal with the frustrations of it not being the best tool for the job. Dr. Sears’ Smoothie Sipper is perfect!! It comes with a thick enough straw so that it’s easy for your child to suck up the thick drinks without sucking so hard that they lose interest. Smoothies are a great way to sneak in some “Grow Foods” as well and the packet has a few suggestions to sneak into your smoothies. I think my only wish is that the straw had a tiny ridge around it so that it doesn’t pull out of the cup, because for some reason, toddlers insist on yanking straws out of their glasses. These two items from Zak! truly have given me new ways to add variety and fun with healthy items into my toddlers routine.

Want to buy one? Head over to their site here and check out their items or even their healthy eating tips or recipes. These are two must-have items for summer time trips to the park, when  you’re on the go or even just to add some healthy varities to your kids lives. The best time to introduce new foods and healthy habits that will last a lifetime is between the ages of one and three. Give your children the tools they need to make healthy choices now and later in life.4634085224 f48501d7b4 Zak! Nibble Tray & Smoothie Sipper + giveaway
